New semester, new start! Now’s the perfect time to take control of your schedule and set yourself up for success. My biggest tip is to start early! This will help you avoid the stress and pressure of last-minute deadlines while also ensuring that you have time to do the things you enjoy.
Here’s a simple 3-step planning method to set yourself up for a smooth semester:
1. Semester Planner – See the Big Picture
📅 Start by mapping out all your major deadlines and assignments on a semester planner. This helps you visualise your workload and avoid any last-minute cramming.
✨ Where to find your assessments?
UQ students: Check your Electronic Course Profile in Blackboard.
QUT students: Find assessments in Canva under the assessments tab.
💡 Tip: Work backward from your due dates! Block out time for reading, writing, and studying so you can pace yourself. Also, add in big commitments like holidays, work shifts, or social events.
You can grab a copy of our Assessment Overview sheet from the Learning Centre to easily map out your deadlines and stay on top of your workload! 📅✅
2. Weekly Planner – Balance Study & Life
Use a weekly planner to map out your commitments, including lectures, study sessions, and downtime. Don’t forget to schedule things that help you relax and recharge! You can grab a King’s weekly planner from the Learning Centre.
3️. Daily Planner – Prioritise Like a Pro
Use a daily planner to prioritize your time each day. This will be your daily ‘to do’ list. I like this one from UQ because it encourages you to also prioritize activities that you need to do outside of uni work - activities that you know are important for your wellbeing.
By getting organised now, you’ll make your semester so much easier, giving you more time for friends, hobbies, and everything else life has to offer. You've got this! 💪
