✨ 🏥This week's Whyte Pegg Society Evening for Health & Medical Sciences marked the conclusion of our 2025 industry careers weeks.
We extend our sincere thanks to our fantastic panelists - Denis Giguere, Ainsley Childs, Kristopher McMurdy, and Nic Lowe - and to our outstanding MC, Blake Miller. Together, they highlighted the breadth of opportunities in the health sector, from clinical practice to senior management, and generously shared their advice with our students. Last night’s panel was all Old Collegians of the College who genourously shared their professional learnings since leaving College.
💡 Key insights from the panel:
🩺Denis (Acting General Manager, UQ Health Care) noted that placements can be the best job interview. Speaking from his extensive experience as an educator, he emphasised that the relationships built during these experiences are often those that lead to career opportunities. He encouraged students to build relationships, be curious, and approach every experience as a chance to learn, remember that your educator doesn’t expect you to have all the answers!
🩺When talking about senior leadership roles, Kris (General Manager Operations, St Vincent’s Health) highlighted that having that background as a clinician adds to your credibility as a leader. He also stressed that when networking, don’t just stay within your circle - reach out to new people.
🩺Nic (Health & Wellbeing Advisor, The Arnott’s Group) shared a practical tip – use AI tools to generate interview practice questions from job descriptions. As a graduate of Exercise Physiology, he encouraged students to be open to exploring the diverse roles in this industry.
🩺Ainsley (Rehabilitation Consultant, Strive Occupational Rehabilitation) expressed that when applying for jobs, consider and ask in interviews: What does supervision look like? What is the company culture? Ensure the role aligns with your values and offers you opportunities to grow.
👏 A huge thank you to our panellists, MCs, students, and staff for making this year’s series of careers weeks such a success!

All the best,
Stacey
