Welcome to Careers
Our goal is simple: to bridge the gap between students and industry, providing you with the resources and guidance necessary to make informed decisions about your future. Whether you’re just starting your academic journey or preparing to graduate, it’s never too early to begin planning for your career.
Your career does not start after graduation. It starts the moment you begin making repeated choices about how you use your time, build skills, seek feedback, relate to others, and respond to opportunity. University is not just a place to gain knowledge; it is a developmental environment where your habits, identity and professional confidence take shape.
Research from vocational psychology and employability science shows that career success and satisfaction are predicted less by having a perfectly defined plan and more by career adaptability: the ability to learn, reflect, explore, build skills, form relationships and adjust direction over time. This means you don’t need to know exactly where you’re headed yet, but you do need to engage intentionally.
They are built through experimentation, reflection, relationships and skill accumulation. The goal of this section is not to push you toward a single outcome, but to help you become the kind of person who can navigate uncertainty, recognise opportunity, and build a career that fits who you are.
When you are at King’s, you’re not just moving into a college with over 300 current students - you’re becoming part of a community that spans more than a century. That means you’re now connected to generations of King’s men and women who have gone on to do incredible things across a wide range of industries.
We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the careers and employability support available at your university. It is one of the best ways to set yourself up for success during and after university.
At The University of Queensland, the central Careers and Employability Team runs a wide range of events, workshops and programs throughout the year, including the annual UQ Careers Fair. Whether you are looking to build your resume, explore career options, connect with employers or prepare for interviews, there is plenty on offer. You can explore the full range of services and upcoming opportunities below.
Alongside the central team, your faculty also offers careers and employability support tailored to your degree and industry. This means more targeted advice, discipline specific events, and opportunities relevant to your field of study.

Similarly, QUT offers a comprehensive range of career support services designed to assist students at every stage of their professional development. Throughout the year, QUT delivers a variety of events, workshops, and programs that help students develop employability skills, explore career pathways, connect with industry, and prepare for the transition into the workforce. Whether you are refining your resume, considering future opportunities, or seeking practical guidance on interviews and networking, there is a wide range of support available.
Our alumni community is known as the King’s Old Collegian Association (KOCA), and they’re one of our greatest strengths. KOCA is an engaged, supportive network of professionals who love giving back and helping current students find their way.
You’ll be officially introduced to KOCA at the Welcome to KOCA event early in the semester, where you’ll meet Old Collegians, hear their stories, and start building your own professional connections. Throughout the year, we also run industry-specific KOCA events, giving you the chance to connect with alumni working in areas you’re curious about.
Check your King’s College Wall Planner, note the KOCA events for the industry or industries you’re interested in, and pop them in your diary - they are opportunities you don’t want to miss! Not sure what you want to do after uni yet? No problem. Come along anyway. Each event is a chance to learn, explore options, and meet interesting people who were once sitting exactly where you are now.
