College Notice #1: Cyclone Alfred

College Notice 4th March
College Notice 4th March

We are closely monitoring the landfall of Cyclone Alfred, expected later this week.  The College’s Executive Team is following all local authority advice and will continue to update the King’s community as needed throughout the weather event.

From midnight Wednesday (5th March) until 8.00am Saturday (8th March), King’s College remains open only to Staff and Residents. Associates should refrain from coming to campus until it is confirmed safe.

King’s College remains a safe place for Residents to reside during the weather event. Please be assured that the College has plenty of food and water to get us through to Tuesday next week, and we have planned for the possible loss of power. However, with UQ, QUT, and ACU now closed until at least Sunday, 9th March, I am asking all Residents to consider their travel plans. If you are choosing to go home, please communicate this to your Residential Leader.

Residents, please be reminded of a few important points….

  1. Whether staying or departing, all windows in the College need to be closed.
  2. Personal and college items should be removed from balconies.
  3. In the event of flooding on the campus, Residents are to inform me or another staff member as soon as possible. Please do not assume we are aware.
  4. Parking on campus is at your own risk. You should avoid parking near trees.
  5. Please stay off the roads from Thursday (5/3) until at least Saturday, and remember, ‘If it’s flooded, forget it’.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.  If your plans change, please inform your Residential Leader promptly. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates via email and King’s Connect as new information comes to hand.
