College Notice #3: Cyclone Alfred

College Notice 8th March
College Notice 8th March

Following the landfall of Cyclone Alfred overnight, we are pleased to report that King’s has fared well, and our Residents remain safe during the current weather event.

In response to the ongoing conditions, and in line with The University of Queensland, the College will remain open only to Residents and Staff until 8.00am Tuesday, 11th March, or until otherwise advised. Associate Members are advised to refrain from coming to campus until it is deemed safe to do so.

Due to the weather uncertainty, the King’s Tutorial Program will now officially begin on Monday, 17th March. As tutorial messaging groups have now been established, you are still welcome and encouraged to reach out to your tutors for assistance. If the course has a Resident Tutor, you are welcome to still organise an ad-hoc tutorial during Week 3 – the possibility of such will be communicated to you via your Tutor. For our Associates, online tutorials or make-up sessions may also be possible.

Important reminders for Residents…

  • With significant rainfall expected, please be vigilant for any flooding on campus or unexpected leaks in rooms. Use buckets to prevent internal damage and promptly inform your Residential Leaders, me, or another staff member.
  • In the event of damage to rooms, emergency bedding has been arranged in the Chapel and Junior Common Room.
  • Continue to maintain communication with your Residential Leader, who will relay information to me and other staff members.
  • Avoid floodwaters at all costs, including on roads. If it's flooded, forget it!

Please refer to the following links for the latest updates from your university:

Thank you for your care and cooperation over the past few days. Please continue to support each other as we expect strong winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding in the coming days.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to your Residential Leader or me. We will continue to monitor the weather, follow local authority directives, and provide updates via email and King’s Connect as new information becomes available.

Stay safe!
