From the CEO - Friday 30 August 2024

One of my favourite events in the year was held last Sunday. It is Henry's Long Lunch and Henry's Quad Sesh which follows. The lunch held to remember Henry Jennings is attended by Henry's parents, Alison and Peter, their friends along with Old Collegians, current Collegians, staff and friends of the College. It may seem strange to say it's one of my favourite events when it only happened for the first time in 2023 but it's special because it brings together a crowd who celebrate the life of a Collegian tragically killed on New Year's Day in 2021. The Scholarship established by his parents is awarded at Valedictory Dinner each year to a third-year student who best represents the values and qualities Henry held dear.

Henry's Quad Sesh which follows is a study in the spirit of King's. Current students sit on the quad lawn in colourful shirts and listen intently and with great respect to Henry's parents, even though they don't know them and many of them didn't know Henry. It doesn't matter because they are talking about an Old Collegian so clearly held in the highest regard by the College community. I knew Henry and I know he would have loved his Long Lunch, and he was, after all often described as the "King of the Sesh" so there's no doubt he would enjoy what follows.

Peter and Alison Jennings are always grateful to the College that we work so hard to remember Henry and keep him (and them) close to the College, but it's certainly not work - it's a privilege and a pleasure. Collegians tell Freshers that when they go out, they should never leave a Collegian behind - always make sure you are with another Kingsman/Kingswoman. The College is simply making sure that Henry and his parents are not left behind and that they continue to stay with us.
