I hope you enjoyed the King's College Careers Fair on Tuesday 10 October as much as I did. The inaugural event was a resounding success with many of you embracing the opportunity to connect with the 32 organisations in attendance, forging new professional relationships and uncovering promising career prospects.
Your active participation, professional demeanor, and insightful questions reflected positively on King’s College. The industry representatives in attendance were genuinely impressed by the caliber of talent at King's College, confirming that our students are precisely the individuals they seek for undergrad and graduate opportunities. Thank you for representing our community so well!
What is important now is to leverage the connections you've made. Don’t hesitate to send LinkedIn connection requests, follow up emails, and keep those conversations going. The relationships you initiated at the Careers Fair are the seeds of potential opportunities and nurturing them may be the key to your success. When you're submitting job applications, remember to mention the insightful discussions you had with the professionals you met at the Fair. It's a powerful way to make your application stand out in a crowded field.
As always, if you need assistance with your resume, LinkedIn profile, or strategies to build on the connections you've initiated, please don't hesitate to reach out. The careers support on offer at King’s is here to help you showcase your best self and make the most of the hard work you've already put in.
Scholarship Applications
This week, the Board of Fellows convened to evaluate scholarship applications and we eagerly await the announcement of the awards at the Valedictory Dinner on Friday, 20th October. King's College offers a range of generous scholarships and bursaries, including travel scholarships for students who have been at King's for 5 or more semesters. The purpose of a scholarship application will differ for every student; to ease financial hardship, assist with college/university fees and/or cover expenses incurred to achieve an academic or professional development goal such as travel to complete a semester at an overseas university or attend a conference. If you did not apply for a scholarship this year, I strongly encourage you to consider doing so next year. In the meantime, check the scholarships page of your university to check eligibility and closing dates.
Countdown to Finals: Two Weeks of Teaching Left
As we move into the final stretch of the semester, for most of you there are only two weeks of teaching left before we enter the exam period. Now is the time to make the most of the support available at King's by prioritising attendance at King’s tutorials and booking time with Brian Clarke, our dedicated writing consultant.
Effective time management is especially crucial during this period of preparation. If you need assistance or additional resources to help you with your time management skills, please come and see me. I’m here to support you on your academic journey.
Take Care of Yourself
As academic pressure intensifies, it's essential to prioritise self-care. Make sure to take breaks, get enough rest, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. We want to see you succeed while also staying well.
Keep up the great work! See you in the LC!
