Don't Let the Semester Get a Jump on You

For many of you, it might be hard to believe that we are about to heading into Week 3 (UQ) or Week 4 (QUT) - in-semester exams are only 4 weeks away!

Semester Two is always busy for a variety of reasons. I would strongly encourage all of you to not let yourself get behind in your academics. The key to success is largest through consistent application, paired with accessing all of the assistance available to you here at King's.

My recipe for success:

  • Come to the LC and grab an assessment planner and some weekly planners to be able to schedule out your time. Don't let those assessments sneak up on you!
  • If your effort in Semester One did not result in your wanted grades, come and see Stacey or I for a chat in how your study methods may be improved.
  • King's Tutorials begin next week, from Monday, 11 August. These are the easiest way to improve your understanding and to get ahead. The biggest mistake that I see people make is thinking they need to have 'stuff done' to go to a tutorial. Why not just sit down and talk through the first assessment with someone who's been through it! If the time's don't suit, feel free to reach out to your tutor to ask for an alternate.
  • I will shortly be holding a workshop on 'How to use AI effectively - harnessing the power of NotebookLM'. From what I have seen, the use of AI across the college is largely ineffective for learning. There is so much that it can do, that still follows academic integrity!
  • If you aren't currently meeting academic standards, you will be required to meet with Stacey to come up with an improvement plan for Semester Two. Whilst we are here to help and of course want everyone to succeed, it is also important to note that academics is likely to be the reason why your 2026 returning application will be held up.

Looking forward to another positive semester with you all.

- Luke
