As Patron of the King’s in Pink Breast Cancer Fundraiser, it is a pleasure to write to you explaining a little about how this initiative began, in an all-male College 17 years ago. In 2005, shortly after our arrival at King’s College, I embarked on a course of action to welcome more women to the College.  At that time, one of our students had recently had a family bereavement due to breast cancer and he was keen to initiate fund raising for research. Thus, the idea of King’s in Pink was born. Little did we know then, that by 2025, we would have as many women resident in college as men. What a pleasure it has been to work with both male and female King’s in Pink (KIP) representatives on the committee and we thank them for their commitment. The 2025 KIP Fun Run and Walk will take place on the morning of Saturday 11th October (which coincides with the Semester 2 Parents’ Cocktail Party that evening).

The aim in 2025 is to raise $25,000 and to do that we need your support. Our focus now is sourcing raffle and silent auction prizes. Thanks to the many donors over the years – local businesses, University of Queensland groups such as UQ Sport and parents, we raised $23,000 last year. This generosity of spirit contributed to the success of the raffle and auction. The King’s in Pink organising committee would be so grateful for your support in raising money for continued breast cancer research by donating to the raffle/silent auction and/or attending the event.

Your donation might be in the form of a voucher, a product, or a weekend away. You do not need to own a business. You might like to donate something to the silent auction to support your hometown e.g., restaurant voucher, meat voucher etc.

We understand that this is a difficult time for so many with the cost of living biting hard, but we hope that you appreciate that we wish to keep this wonderful initiative going.

All proceeds go to Project Pink – PA Hospital Foundation.

Simply reply to this email address a.houston@kings.uq.edu.au, stating what you would like to donate, and we will be in touch.

Thank you for your support.

P.S. - you can find King's in Pink on Facebook and Instagram.  Don't forget to follow us for updates!
