From the Deputy CEO - People, Culture & Engagement

As we approach the Easter period, I thought it timely to do my annual update to the King’s community about the important work of one of our Council Committees that operates within King’s.

In 2022, King’s College engaged Mumm & Associates to conduct a review of the College Council and provide a report to the Council. This review highlighted the need to form a culture-based committee, and along with the Culture Review mid-year in 2023, the People, Culture & Engagement (PCE) Committee was formed.

The PCE Committee functions as an advisory committee to the King’s College Council. Within the Committee, there is also the inclusion of risk management, particularly at a practical level, such as social aspects affecting the College community.

The PCE provides advice to King’s College Council on the leadership and management of people and culture within the College, including:

  • organisational culture and development (staff, residents, associates and committees)
  • employee attraction, retention, development and succession planning
  • remuneration
  • health, safety and psychosocial aspects in the College for all members
  • organisational people and culture risks, such as whistleblowing, incident reporting and management (staff, residents, associates and committees)
  • monitoring and review of the College’s strategies and performance indicators related to people and culture, including those contained in the College’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028
  • overseing the College’s strategies and plans for communications and engagement with The University of Queensland, the King’s community and broader external stakeholders, including the College’s marketing, branding and media strategies that enhance the College’s domestic and international reputation, and
  • other actions as required by King’s College Council.

The PPE consists of the following members:

  • 2 members of King’s College Council, one of whom shall be the Chair
  • Chief Executive Officer
  • Deputy CEO & Director of Collegians’ Experience
  • Director of Engagement and Advancement;
  • Director of Academic and Career Development
  • Director of Finance and Operations
  • 2 students

Since its formation, the Committee has assisted the College's work through several initiatives. In 2023, it took charge of the report and recommendations that came from the Cultural Review that occurred that year, and since then, annual amendments and reviews of the O-Week program, legislative discussions regarding the University Accord/Student Ombudsman/Gender Based Violence, wellbeing initiatives and reporting and psychosocial risks.

If you would like any further information about the Committee or its work, please feel free to contact me directly.
