This year marked one of the most successful seasons for King’s College in ICC Hockey—and it was made possible through the incredible generosity of our alumni community.
Thanks to a donation from Bruce Ward (King’s 1967–1969) and the UFBPCPC Boys, our Hockey teams were able to purchase a second full playing kit. The gift was made in memory of Gavin Smith (King’s 1966–1968), a talented hockey player who left a lasting impression on the College during his time.
We spoke with Isaac Burke (second-year resident) and Primrose Porter (third-year resident) about the impact this support had on their teams.
“The men’s team wouldn’t have been able to take the field without it,” said Isaac.
“We’re incredibly grateful,” added Primrose. “Having extra gear allowed us to train better, play internal matches, and lift both teams’ performance throughout the season.”
Since the time of the donation, we are saddened to share that Bruce Ward has also passed away. His support, however, lives on in the opportunities and pride he helped foster among our student-athletes.
This story is a powerful reminder of the strength and spirit of the King’s College community. Through the generosity of our Old Collegians, current students are being equipped not only with gear but with a sense of connection and legacy that inspires them to excel.
