Wear-it-purple-day is an annual Australian LGBTQIA+ awareness day especially for young people - supporters wear purple to celebrate diversity and young people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Why?
Because we live in a heteronormative society where not everybody is equally safe to just be the way they are. Let’s change that?
What?
Simply wear something purple to show your support. This can be as little as a purple ribbon. If you'd like some bracelets or other merch, see Maike in the wellbeing space - she has loads :)
This is ESPECIALLY important if you are NOT part of the LGBTQIA+ community, i.e. those of us who benefit from heteronormativity - to signal that equality and inclusion are everyone’s responsibility.
Please note: While this is an all-day and college-wide/ Australia-wide event, I've marked it as 9:30am - 10:30am at our Cafeteria to make sure you don't miss out on purpole cupcakes ;)
